What Others are saying....

Wondering what others are saying about working with Jamie...

I would absolutely recommend this class to others as I am developing a clearer understanding of how my body is meant to function. My biggest ‘aha’ came during the past two classes. I have had hip flexor and right/left imbalance issues for many many years to the extent that I am uncomfortable doing some activities I enjoy like hiking and golf.

I have always been an avid exercise enthusiast and to think that I will be able to participate using my body properly is exciting. I feel that I have a long way to go but the tools you’ve given me to work with are already having an enormous effect. I’m really looking forward to the next segment of functionality!

Love your class!

So educational as to how everything connects and makes you realize how very important the boring basics are. I absolutely love the fact we get a recording where we can get those little details we missed! Also in case we miss the class , it enables us to catch up!

Thank you 100%😛🤗.

The diaphragm work!! I cannot say enough. This is exactly what my body was missing. After about a week of taking 5 minutes a day to incorporate this into my warm up I noticed big shifts. A nagging discomfort in my mid back that I had previously just always “managed” no longer nagging! Digestion!! I

mproving this is a huge win for overall happiness. And feeling stronger in my workouts from using my breathe more efficiently.

WIN. WIN. WIN. WIN.

I started seeing Jamie several years ago because I had knee pain that interfered with the walking and jogging that I liked to do. I had spoken to an athletic therapist at a family medicine conference. I had learned that athletic therapy is not just for specialized athletes but that “ATs also clinically treat the everyday athlete ranging from the weekend warrior to individuals who have injured themselves on the job.” (a quote taken from the Alberta Athletic Therapy Association website). After a search, I chose Jamie because in addition to AT certification, she had a degree in kinesiology from the University of Calgary. I continued with her because her treatment approach was effective: with a few sessions, a few simple exercises and some moderate effort on my part, the pain resolved over a few weeks. I have seen Jamie over the years for a few more specific issues such as a high ankle sprain (after initial physiotherapy for the acute injury) and more advanced osteoarthritis of the knee. I can still hike and scramble in the Rockies with only an occasional anti-inflammatory.I chose to see Jamie initially because her educational background was thorough. I continued with her because I found her to be a keen observer and interpreter of movement problems and a effective therapist. She is very motivated to help, curious and smart and resourceful in teaching someone how to use and strengthen (train) muscles that they didn’t know (or had forgotten) they had, and which help them move better. I continue to see her for education and exercises to improve movement and prevent injury so that I can continue the activities that I enjoy, and do them better.

Honestly, after my first appointment I sat in my car and cried. I had been bounced from doctor to doctor with no real answers as to why I was in so much physical pain and I was frustrated. But after seeing Jamie I felt that for the first time someone saw that I was in real pain and that there was a way I could lessen that pain without pills. My symptoms had been met with such dismissal from most doctors, they cited that it was most likely stress induced, like that was a helpful diagnosis. Jamie gave me hope that I could get better, that I wasn't always going to be in pain every day. To say Jamie changed my life would be pretty much bang on. She quite literally gave me back my quality of life, my ability to live my life, to be present for it and to enjoy living it again. That was something I had lost because of the pain. The simple exercises she gave me to do allowed me to become aware of my body, what it was doing, and how I was moving it. It was like a lightbulb going off. I could change the way I moved and sat and stood so that I wasn't constantly putting painful strain on my body anymore. I could do that. It took work and time but I'm not living in pain anymore and I didn't have to take pain killers or pills in order to accomplish that.  What I have learned: Jamie taught me that I need to be an active participant in my own recovery, otherwise there would be no recovery. That was so empowering, that's what's missing from so many doctor patient interactions. The understanding that the patient has to be willing to show up and put the work in and decide they want to get better. Jamie gave me no choice, she inspired me to show up for myself and to change what I was doing so that I could have a pain free life. What she does extends far beyond her studio, it applies to everything I do now. How I walk to work, how I sit at my desk, how I work out, how I enjoy the outdoors. Her impact is pretty far reaching and absolutely life long. I'm forever going to be grateful to her.

Would I recommend her? Yes, to everyone I know. A big, huge, resounding yes

Jamie & Andrea Although you both were not physically at my wedding, I want you to know of the significant influence you each played on my special day. A year ago, I could barely work a four hour shift at work but thanks to you two, I was able to not only enjoy my wedding day but also a 3 week honeymoon without pain or fatigue! I'll forever be grateful for the unique treatment process at PHYSICAL SOLUTIONS.

I love you guys!

I heard about Jamie from a friend who was impressed with her one and only visit to Jamie. I had hurt my shoulder in June of 2017 and I went to physio and had shots but with no lasting results. I went to see Jamie in Oct 2018, I was impressed on my very first visit by what Jamie said and the exercises she started me on.  I continued to see Jamie over a period of about 8 months. I might be still going as I enjoyed my appointments so much however I lost my husband in May and wasn't thinking about my shoulder or appointments for a couple of months. Then I realized that I hadn't felt my shoulder for a couple of months so I didn't make another appointment. After all the snow I had to shovel off a large driveway this past weekend September 29/30 2019 I thought I might be feeling my shoulder and have to make another appointment. However I did not feel my shoulder, it is back to normal thanks to Jamie. I would highly recommend her and have recommended her to friends who are going to physio and wearing tensor bandages etc and still suffering. I learned a few other points on biking and having good posture through my visits to Jamie which makes me think I just might make another appointment even though my shoulder is cured.

Around 10 years ago I fell through a boarded walkway falling about 6 feet and landed on my feet with locked knees. I couldn’t walk for about 2 years - my knees just kept getting worse. The doctors told me it was soft tissue damage - nothing they could do, except pain killers. My trainer at the time, Peter Estabrooks, suggested I go see Jamie Bessant as she “really knew knees”!

Jamie worked with me for quite some time and got my knees back to normal and pain free. She showed me tricks and ways to eliminate the pain. Through the years I have stayed with Jamie as she not only trains me but makes sure I have a pain free life.

Now I was in a vehicle accident and together we are working on that - she is smart and definitely knows what bodies do. She watches how I walk, how I hold myself and always asks what is going on.

I’m so blessed in finding Jamie. She makes my life so much easier and pain free.

I would and do recommend her to everyone.

My name is Sharon Loberg and I am 56 years old. I have degenerative disc disease, scoliosis and 3 herniated discs. I have struggled with my back for years. I found Jamie by googling personal trainer/massage therapist/physiotherapist. We spoke on the phone and I immediately felt comfortable with her. she is incredibly knowledgeable, humble and non judgemental. She has taught me not to be afraid of my back. She is teaching me body awareness (a hard job after being told I just needed to learn to live with the pain).. I have learned that often the part of my body that is “screaming” is overworked not injured. She has me stand in front of a mirror points out what she sees (twists, tightness etc), has me do exercises and then back to the mirror to see the differences . It’s amazing!! I recommend Jamie to everyone as she is “the real deal”. My only regret is that I didn’t find her sooner!!

I'm 70 years old. I initially came to see Jamie for help with a persistent pain issue in the ischial bursa. A friend who has a couple of family members being treated by Jamie suggested I try the clinic.  My first impression was very good. Jamie did a thorough initial examination of my movement patterns. Her explanation of what was observed was clear and understandable. Her manner is very approachable. Jamie welcomes my questions. At every visit she gives me a few new exercises to build on previous exercises that will build core strength and improve movement patterns. Jamie asks for my own observations, checks my movement and responds by adjusting the program, if necessary. I've learned that weak core and pelvic floor are major contributors to movement problems I have had over the years. I recommend her to others..

- Marjorie

My first impression of Jamie was that she was highly knowledgeable, committed to making a difference with a structured approach. Jamie has taught me how to actually stand and move correctly and has an innate ability to see through my compensations and bad habits to discover the source of the issues and create a plan to counteract and address the core issues. I’ve learned to trust my body and how to actually use it, that I can be strong and powerful and trust my body to perform when I need it to. I absolutely recommend Jamie - working with Jamie has been crucial to discovering how my body actually works and what. It’s capable of when I get my past experiences out of the way, she’s made a fundamental difference in how I operate in life and I am grateful for the opportunity to work together!

I’m trying to age as gracefully as I can. My motto these days is “use it or lose it”. To this end, Jamie was recommended to me by my chiropractor to try to get to the root of ongoing knee and shoulder aches and pains. Jamie’s extensive knowledge of how all our body parts work together and affect one another, enables her to pinpoint the source of any difficulty. She works to treat the cause of any issue, not just the symptoms. The exercises she gives help to retrain many years of bad habits. I have benefitted from the homework practice and become more aware of helpful and potentially harmful ways of moving. I would definitely recommend Jamie to anyone who is experiencing any pain &/or mobility issues. In fact, I can see value in having an assessment/class/treatment proactively with Jamie to fix bad habits before any pain emerges.

I have been managing a hip injury that affects my quality of life. I want to stay active as I age, and I want to avoid surgery if possible. I saw Jamie working with clients where I worked out, and her clients were making progress and smiled on their way out. Jamie’s clients kept coming back, looking happy! A number of them recommended her to me. Jamie has helped me to stay active and to modify destructive movement patterns. I have far less pain, and I can hike and walk as I wish. I have learned to take responsibility for my hip health and to be in touch with my body. Jamie has a gift for analyzing a physical problem, getting to the heart of it, creating a strategy to address it, and teaching me to use her targeted process. I was fearful of declining health and activity as I age, but she has made me feel empowered and hopeful. I’m getting better and stronger, which is a great relief, both physically and mentally. I will continue to recommend Jamie to people who could benefit from working with her. In fact, she is the best athletic therapist I’ve ever worked with. I don’t recommend her to passive people who expect someone else to do all the work.

I first went to Jamie on the advice of my daughters chiropractor Dr. Andrea Sargant. My daughter is a carded Canadian track and field athlete so I thought if Jamie was good for my daughter than she could probably fix a train wreck like myself. I suffered from left hip and knee injuries as well as tennis elbow acquired from both skiing and tennis. After a year of traditional physiotherapy with little success, the exercises and physical therapy from Jamie has allowed me to play tennis and ski again with much reduced pain. The thought of strengthening muscle groups to support injured areas has worked well. Both myself and my wife are regular patients of Jamie.'s The routines are designed to help me help myself to not only strengthen my abilities but to also prevent future injuries. I highly recommend Ms Bessant and her team of Andrea and Sara!

- Dr Terry Lim

Over the years, I have noticed that aches and pains from old injuries were limiting my activities. My daughter had been to see Jamie for an athletic injury and suggested that I make an appointment. I’ve been extremely happy with the decrease in pain and increase in movement that I have achieved by working with Jamie. The simple yet challenging exercises that she modifies each visit can be done at home or the gym whenever I have time. Overall, I feel better and move better. In fact, my husband started working with Jamie to keep up with me. I should have made my first appointment with Jamie years ago.

I was 74 when I came for my first visit which was about a frozen shoulder as a result of a hockey injury. I came after Rhonda Yaskowich told me you did some great work for her. You gave me some exercises, put some tape on it and I had a couple of massages which fixed me up. My next visit two years later was to get help with plantar fasciitis. My G.P. had recommended a boot to be worn at night. This did little if any good so I came to see you. Once again you gave me some exercises, put some tape on my leg which cleared up the problem. My third time to see you was in March of this year and was once again about my shoulder. This was not as severe as the first time and a new set of exercises and some tape fixed me up. I sense some weakness in that shoulder so I continue with the exercises which helps. My first impression was that you put a lot of effort into understanding the problem and cause before offering help. Which is great. In all cases you have helped me out and fixed my problem. I have learned to keep up with my stretching exercises. I would definitely recommend you to others.

- Nick

Jamie is super friendly and welcoming.  No judgement on fitness level or skills which helped overcome anxiety to trying something new.  Jamie has helped in many ways - first learning the basics of what is going on with the body and what potential it has to trickle throughout. Second, explaining exactly how the exercises and movements SHOULD feel makes it a lot more relatable and understandable for doing it on your own. Third, the exercises she has provided and taught have always been able to be moulded to my life as a flight attendant and always being on the road. This has made it accessible and easy to keep up with which has provided results. Fourth, my back pain is significantly lower and the migraines have gone from 2-3 times a week to 2-3 times a month, which is something I haven’t had since I was in my early 20’s.  Jamie is always willing to help - sending feedback or help even when you’re not at an appointment, or willing to do a Skype session while on the road!  I can also say that I hear Jamie’s voice in my head when my back starts hurting - so I check in and see what my body is doing that causes the pain - which allows me to alleviate it.  I have learned that Our bodies being neutral in stance helps all our functions. Our bodies compensate for different things so that we can go on without thinking. But over time these compensations become normal and create other problems and can affect our wellbeing in many ways.  I have also learned that your body can go back to its original state with a little work, and the simple things aren’t easy for people who’s bodies are out of whack.  After trying many different therapies and medication to help throughout my life, going back to basics with Jamies help has been super beneficial. I 100% refer Jamie to others - and already have!

- Kirsten

I appreciate the very thorough treatments and movement plan, combined with the informal, friendly atmosphere that makes me feel that we're in this together. Jamie's photos and written comments are invaluable in helping me do the exercises properly and keep up the momentum towards real change.

Physical Solutions and Jamie built my confidence and helped me move, stand, walk better. I have to say it improved my daily activity with extra attention to my pain. I give Physical Solutions a 5 star...Highly recommend and wish I knew about her after my accident.

- Kim

Jamie you see possibility and help others to feel possibility. You build trust. You educate and teach people to fish rather than give them the fish or sense that you will fix them.

- Dawn, Yoga Therapist

Jamie was the first person to tell me that I didn’t have to live with pain. This had never occurred to me before since I had lived with it almost every day for 17 years.  She is helping me to retrain my muscles and has referred me to other resources that are helping me put all the pieces of the puzzle together. Thanks so much Jamie!

- Sally

Jamie is my go to movement expert! Simple changes that make a huge impact. The way you move matters. Be Your Better :).

- Dr. Lindsay, Chiropractor

I suffered a serious neck injury when I was 14. It wasn’t until many years later that I discovered there would be many long term side effects that would begin to show up. My spine became seriously misaligned and abnormal stresses played havoc with the rest of my structure. I was fortunate enough to find an excellent chiropractor who was able to correct the spine issue, however by this time tremendous damage had occurred throughout my neck and back muscular system. I was in constant discomfort and nothing brought relief for more than a few hours at a time. Jamie discovered a whole array of muscular problems that were contributing to my ongoing discomfort. Through a series of well designed exercises, Jamie taught me to retrain the old damaged muscles and give them new life. I am now pain free and have found a whole new range of motion that I thought was lost forever. It is without any hesitation that I recommend Jamie Bessant.

- Brian

I found your assessment and therapy plan just right for my condition. I have recommended you to friends and will continue to do so.

- Mina

After seeing so many treatment providers, it was nerve wracking to add another to the team. However it was refreshing to have the two of you actually work together and adapt your treatments based on other's assessments/perspectives. My treatment has become more effective, efficient and enjoyable (less pain/flare ups).

- Nicole

After a major leg surgery I didn’t think I’d ever enjoy intense physical activity again. I had several sessions with a popular ‘chain’ physiotherapist and got almost no improvement. Thankfully I found Jamie, and with her techniques (treat the source not the symptom!) I’m back enjoying everything I did before my surgery. Wouldn’t have been possible without Jamie!

- Steve

Jamie is the best there is. After seeing other therapists for years that just temporarily alleviated my symptoms, it was thrilling to find someone who is able to get to the root cause of my stiffness, educate me on why certain muscles were over compensating for others and help me fix the issues. Highly recommend Jamie!

- Gea

I've worked with Jamie for many years - both as a trainer and a physical therapist. I had 2 knee surgeries last year and I did physio and chiro elsewhere and seeing Jamie for help has done more for my strength and mobility than all others combined. I've never met anyone who understands the bio mechanics of our bodies better than Jamie. She teaches you how to work with your body to alleviate pain. Seriously, a miracle worker.
